Yesterday Nicolai continued his small tour of Germany, this time at the Pfingstpokal meeting in Güstrow.
A strong line-up was waiting at this meeting, with the likes of Artem Laguta, Robert Lambert and Vaclav Milik. But Nicolai was keen to bring the form from Teterow for this meeting as well.
It did not look like it though, as the first heat ended with zero points. But some good changes made sure that everyone else only saw the back of Nicolai for the rest of the meeting, as it was all heat wins from then on. This meant that he finished 3rd overall in the meeting and won the memorial heat in the end, which consisted of the top three and the best German rider.
“What a night it was for me! I started out with a last place in my first heat after too much lift from the start. We made some changes and more or less stuck with them for the rest of the night, which gave me 5 heat wins. To win the memorial final was a huge relief after the last couple of weeks I have had. I’m so happy and I’ve had a really good weekend together with my fantastic mechanic Palle.”
Nicolai’s next meeting is on Thursday, when Poole take on King’s Lynn at home.
